Dr. Matthew Kloser 

Founding Director of the Center for STEM Education
University of Notre Dame

Matt’s research focuses on issues of teaching, learning, and assessment in the science classroom with a special focus on biology education. His research includes experimental studies that identify affordances and constraints of learning biology from different text types, mixed methods studies focused on assessment implications for student outcomes, and the relationship between core instructional practices and student outcomes.

Dr. Christine Trinter

Associate Professor of Mathematics Education

University of Notre Dame

Chrissy serves as a faculty member of the ACE Teaching Fellows Program and the Center for STEM Education in the Institute for Educational Initiatives. Chrissy’s research focuses on factors associated with teacher development, specifically related to teacher leadership, curriculum design, and technology usage in the mathematics classroom. Dr. Trinter’s upcoming research project will be providing 2-year professional development in the mentorship of teacher leaders for elementary mathematics right here in our KC community!

Kali Frederick

Professional Learning Coordinator
High Tech High - Chula Vista San Diego CA

Kali Frederick is a Professional Learning Coordinator for High Tech High Chula Vista campus in San Diego CA. Kali taught for five years in NYC at a large comprehensive public high school and has taught middle and high school at HTH for 10 years. Kali’s undergraduate work is in Political Science, but she collaborates with the HTH PD team to create events and workshops for faculty in all disciplines. She believes in the power of finding one’s voice and works to amplify student voice and bring student leadership to the forefront of the work schools and teachers are doing.

Nuvia Crisol Ruland

Professional Learning Coordinator
High Tech High - Chula Vista San Diego CA

 Nuvia Crisol Ruland is a scientist and artist passionate about developing and facilitating curriculum based on the creative process at High Tech High Chula Vista. Her middle name, Crisol, Spanish for crucible or melting pot, holds the key to her passion for scientific research and art making. Nuvia’s interests started when she graduated from UC San Diego with a BS in biochemistry/cell biology and a minor in studio art. Prior to teaching, she worked for 10 years at Arena Pharmaceuticals as a member of the Drug Discovery team in cardiovascular research. As a visual artist, Nuvia documented her bicultural experience of growing up in LA while frequenting Baja California, Mexico to visit her family.

Dr. Kevin Truman

UMKC School of Computing & Engineering

Dr.  Kevin Truman is the Dean of the School of Computing & Engineering and Vice Provost at University of MO - Kansas City. His roots are growing up in rural Illinois and as a first-generation college student. His college life started as a math and physics major at Monmouth College and he credits the liberal arts for much of his growth in education. Research interests include earthquake-resistant design and structural design, and construction of massive concrete systems.  Prior to UMKC, Kevin was the Chair and Greensfelder Professor of Mechanical, Aerospace and Structural Engineering at Washing University in St. Louis.
